Things to think about

Have a clean out
Moving will be a lot easier if you can get rid of the things you don’t need or haven’t used for years, before you move.  This is a great opportunity to be ruthless – if you haven’t used it for more than six months, chances are you never will.

Check your insurance
If you are using a moving company, check whether insurance for your belongings during the move is included in their fee.  If not, check your existing insurance policy to find out whether you’re covered.  The National Bank offers quality home and contents insurance at an affordable price.

Allow plenty of time
Moving almost always takes longer than you think.  Don’t underestimate the effort of unpacking, which can be just as time-consuming as packing up in the first place.

Factor in cleaning time
You’ll need to clean your old home before leaving, and you’ll also want to be able to have a clean up at your new home before moving your things in.  While the seller will hopefully have left it clean, it’s a lot easier to clean an empty house than one full of your belongings.
